Buffalo, NY-The D'Youville Men's soccer team fought a long battle tonight as they fell 1-2 in double overtime to the Mounties of Mount Aloysius.
The Spartans started off the game playing strong defense, only letting Aloysius get in four shots in the first fifteen minutes. After a yellow card on Marco Ciccarelli (Rochester, NY/ Webster-Schroeder) at almost the 17thminute, the Mounties were able to get off three more shots in the half with the fourth resulting in a goal. D'Youville would end the half without getting a shot of their own off.
Aloysius would come out of the locker room strong getting two quick shots off in the 48thminute. It wouldn't be until the 61stminute that the Spartans would get their first shot of the game off, with a header by Tiago Salles (Porto Allegre, Brazil/ Colegio Anchieta). Just two minutes later, Khaled Numan-Ali (Cheektowaga, NY/ Cheektowaga) got a header of his own off a pass from HsaKlo Moo (Rvierside, NY/ McKinley). Numan-Ali was only just put in the game a minute and half prior. With both teams each getting a yellow card more, the clock would run down to zero with a score of 1-1 to lead the teams into the first overtime.
The first set of extra time showed the same solid defense from both teams during regulation, with only three shots being taken the whole ten minutes. The second overtime resulted in only one shot by the Mounties at the 101stminute, that ended the game.
