Men Suffer Double OT Loss to Panthers

Buffalo, NY - The D'Youville men's soccer team suffered a 1-0 double overtime loss to the Pitt.-Bradford Panthers on Wednesday evening at Dobson Field.

Through the first 45 minutes of play, the Spartans dominated play at both ends of the field. D'Youville controlled the ball while outshooting the Panthers 9-0 and created several very dangerous chances, but the men couldn't find the goal as the scored remained tied at 0-0 at halftime.

The second half saw several scoring chances from each team as they both looked to break the scoreless draw. Hunter Sherman (Lockport, NY/Lockport) made a big impact in the second half and had a handful of quality shots while Khaled Numan-Ali (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga) and Jake Kowalewski (Attica, NY/Attica) each had chances as well. Bradford saw to shots hit the woodwork, but neither team could put one past the opposing goalkeeper as the game went to overtime tied 0-0.

Marco Ciccarelli (Rochester, NY/Webster-Schroeder) tallied the lone shot of the first overtime, but the two teams went to a second overtime still scoreless. On the first shot of the second OT and just their second shot on goal of the game, Bradford scored the game-winner to take the game 1-0.

In his first game back from injury, Sherman led the team with eight shots and two on goal. Nick Dumond (Lockport, NY/Starpoint) added four shots while Ciccarelli had three and Mwibeleca Tumba (Congo/Fraternity Institute) had three as well. Kyle Dick (Churchville, NY/Churchville-Chili) made one save on two shots with the Spartans taking a shot advantage of 23-5. A great defensive effort was put forth by Kowalewski, Matt Davis (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport), AJ Wade (Lockport, NY/Starpoint), HsaKlo Moo (Riverside, NY/McKinley), and Tiago Salles (Porto Allegre, Brazil/Colegio Anchieta) was an important piece in the midfield.

D'Youville will play their final road game this coming Saturday, October 26 as they play at Franciscan with game time scheduled for 1:00pm.
