Steubenville, OH - The D'Youville men's soccer team suffered a loss in their final road game of the season on Saturday afternoon as they were shutout by the host Franciscan Barons 3-0.
It was a physical battle between the two teams early in the first. The physicality from both sides led to two early cards in the game, but Franciscan established themselves on the scoreboard with the opening goal in the 6th minute to lead 1-0.
The Spartans would respond to the goal with several quality chances just a few minutes after to keep the game close. More chances came from each side as the intensity turned up another notch before a red card to D'Youville in the 37th minute would but the Spartans down a man.
Despite being down, D'Youville would turn it on late to get two quality chances in the final seven minutes of play. However, the game would remain at 1-0 going into halftime.
D'Youville came out in the second and nearly tied the game with two quality scoring opportunities. However, the Barons would do all of the damage with goals in the 54th and and 57th minutes to extend their lead to 3-0.
Unfortunately for D'Youville, they would go down another player in the second half in their attempt to get back into the game. Franciscan would then go on to win the game by the final of 3-0.
Hunter Sherman (Lockport, NY/Lockport) and Mwibeleca Tumba (Congo/Fraternity Institute) led the team with four shots each as Nick Dumond (Lockport, NY/Starpoint) and HsaKlo Moo (Riverside, NY/McKinley) added two each. Kyle Dick (Churchville, NY/Churchville-Chili) had six saves in the loss.
The next game for the men will be their last of 2019 as they host the Alfred State Pioneers this Tuesday, October 29 at 5:00pm for senior night.
