Men's Tennis Beats Houghton

Williamsville, NY-The D'Youville College men's tennis team won their first match of the season 5-4 over visiting Houghton College.

The Spartans' first doubles duo of Robert Amabile (Elma, NY/Iroquois) and Wei Yen Huang (New Taipei City, Taiwan/Washington Academy, DE) won 8-3.

James Moran (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) and David Kulczyk (Hamburg, NY/St. Francis) picked up their first win of the season with an 8-4 win at #3 doubles.

Amabile and Huang made it two straight matches that each player has won in doubles and in singles. Amabile won 6-3, 7-5 in first singles and Huang was a 6-2, 6-1 winner at second singles.

Mateusz Ruszkiewicz (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga) earned his first win of the season with a    6-0, 6-3 win at #5 singles.

Moran and John Nazzarett (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga) extended each of their singles match to a deciding third but were not victorious.

It was the first career win for D'Youville Head coach Stephen Weiss.

D'Youville is now 1-3 on the season and next plays March 21 at Waynesburg College.
