Buffalo, N.Y.- Men's volleyball snapped their seven-match losing streak with a 3-0 home court win over Cazenovia. Set scores were 25-4, 25-5, 25-16.
Matt Loos (Cheektowaga, NY/Maryvale) closed out the first set with a 14-point service run. Loos had seven aces in that run making it a season-best total for the freshman outside hitter.
D'Youville closed the match with a 25-16 win in the third set. Nick Vitello (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) dished a career-high 14 assists, marking the first time this season the Spartans has someone other than Jay Senozetnik (Eden, NY/Eden) running the offense. Senozetnik set the first two sets and tallied a match-high 22 helpers.
The Spartans had a season-high hitting percentage of .485 versus Cazenovia.
The Spartans opened the day with a four-set loss to Milwaukee School of Engineering.
After dropping the first two sets 25-15 and 25-20. D'Youville rebounded for a 25-21 win in the fourth.
Down 20-16 in the fourth a D'Youville rally got the score even at 20 but the Spartans made three-straight non-block hitting errors down the stretch for a 25-21 final in the fourth.
D'Youville (8-8) returns to United Volleyball Conference play March 9-10 at SUNY New Paltz. March 9 D'Youville plays twelfth-ranked NYU at 1:00 p.m. followed by a 5:00 p.m. match versus Bard College. March 10 the Spartans close the weekend with a 1:00 p.m. match versus #13 Vassar College.
