Erie, PA- It wasn't a good night for the D'Youville men's volleyball team at Penn State Behrend. The Spartans made too many hitting errors to stay competitive and lost in three sets. Scores were 25-15, 25-15, 25-15.
D'Youville fell behind 8-1 in the first. The main culprit was 6 non-block hitting errors. A rally got them to 9-9 but five-straight hitting errors put them back into a hole they wouldn't crawl out of. D'Youville actually had more kills than Behrend in the first (10-7) and more digs (18-15).
After a disastrous second set, D'Youville jumped out to a 5-1 lead to open the third but more hitting errors, this time caused by the Behrend block, sealed the match.
The Spartans were outblocked by a 10-1 margin, and only generated 1 service ace to Behrend's 7.
"Nothing good came from tonight's match," said D'Youville Head coach John Hutton. "We took ourselves out of any possible positive outcome tonight. We steamrolled ourselves."
D'Youville (9-11) plays in road tri-match March 16 at Keuka College. At 1:00 p.m. D'Youville plays SUNYIT and then host Keuka at 3:00 p.m.
