Men's Volleyball Leaves Chicago with a Win

Chicago, IL-D'Youville used the momentum from a late first set rally to carry them to a four-set win at St. Xavier. Set scores were 26-24, 25-21, 14-25, 25-22.

The Spartans face a set point at 24-22 in the first and closed the set with four-straight points for to take a 1-0 lead in the match. In the second, D'Youville jumped out to an early lead and cruised to a 25-21 win.

After a lackluster third set that saw the Spartans total just 8 kills and post a hitting percentage of .000, the Red and White came from behind four times in the fourth and pull away for a 25-22 win.

Spartan senior and Illinois native Chris Temple (Highwood, IL/Highland Park) scored a team-high 16 points (12 kills, 1 solo block, 4 block assists, 1 service ace) in front of family and friends.

Chris Krueger (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) had a match-high 13 kills and Alex Johnson (Clarence, NY/Clarence)snared 12 digs. Jay Senozetnik (Eden, NY/Eden) had a double-double of 10 digs and a match-high 31 assists. Brett Cawthorn (West Seneca, NY/St. Francis) added 7 kills and had a team-best .364 hitting percentage.

"Tonight was a big night for Chris (Temple), and he played a great match," said D'Youville Head coach John Hutton. "We also got great performances and contributions at all the right times from all 10 players."

D'Youville has won two-straight and improves to 13-15 on the season. The Spartans return home and then travel to play at Cazenovia College March 28 at 7:00 p.m.
