Spartans Swept on the Road

Buffalo, NY-A slow start in the first set gave way to progressively better play as the match wore on but men's volleyball was defeated tonight at Penn State Behrend in three sets (25-15, 25-15, 25-20).

"Considering this was the first six on six volleyball of any kind we have played since February 9,  I am okay with how it went," said Spartans' Head coach John Hutton. "We got some players back from injury and finally had some stability with our lineup."

The Spartans offensive numbers increased in each set going from six kills in game one to nine in the second and ending with 12 kills in the third.

Matt Loos (Cheektowaga, NY/Maryvale) tallied a match-high 12 kills while posting a team-best .400 hitting percentage. Evan Singer (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South) was next with six kills and a .308 hitting percentage.

The defensive effort was better tonight. Alex Johnson (Clarence, NY/Clarence) and Collin McMahon (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) tied for the match-high with nine digs apiece.

Next on the schedule is the first home match of the season February 26 at 7:00 versus Elmira College. Elmira is ranked #11 in this week's American Volleyball Coaches Association Division III poll.
