Spartans Say Goodbye to UVC with Loss at Hilbert

Hamburg, NY-D'Youville played their final match as members of the United Volleyball Conference and the Spartans went with a three-set loss at Hilbert College.

Set scores were 25-23, 25-19, and 25-18.

Steve Goedtel (Eden, NY/Eden) led the team with 12 kills and Alex Johnson (Lancaster, NY/Clarence) collected a match-high 17 digs.

The loss ended a streak of 25-straight wins D'Youville had accumulated over Hilbert in 11 seasons of competition.

"We didn't convert during the key moments of the match," said Spartans' Head coach John Hutton. "They (Hilbert) just flat out played better, and smarter, than us. Congratulations to Coach Schultz and his team."

D'Youville closes the book after four seasons of play as members of the United Volleyball Conference. In 2015 D'Youville will play men's volleyball as members of the North Eastern Athletic Conference. The Spartans will still play a schedule of Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference matches but receive entry to the NCAA Division III Tournament through the NEAC.

The Spartans play tomorrow (March 20) at Cazenovia College. Start time is 7:00 p.m.
