Elmira, NY – After a winless Friday, the D'Youville Men's Volleyball Team failed to get back in the win column Saturday, falling to Baruch and UC Santa Cruz by the scores of 3-0 and 3-0.
D'Youville played a close first match, but ultimately lost in three sets by the finals of 25-14, 25-23 and 26-24. For the 11th straight game, freshman Brock Tetreault (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) led the team in kills. His 10 stood alone for the team high, followed by Brett Cawthorn (West Seneca, NY/St. Francis) with 7. Chris Busha (Hamburg, NY/St. Francis) had 10 digs to lead the team, followed by Alex Johnson (Lancaster, NY/Clarence) and Cawthorn with 8. Johnson also led the team with 2 assists. Collin McMahon (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) accounted for 2 digs.
The Spartans second match wouldn't get much better, with the team suffering defeat in three sets for the fourth straight match, losing to UC Santa Cruz by the finals of 25-19, 25-19 and 25-18.
Tetreault was the team leader yet again in kills with 16. Steve Goedtel (Eden, NY/Eden) tallied 3 and Evan Singer (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South) had 2. Johnson led the team with 13 digs, while Goedtel had 7, and Matt Loos (Cheektowaga, NY/Maryvale) had 6, tied with Tetreault. Logan Krass (Oswego, NY/Oswego) recorded a kill, with Kevin Kelly (Cheektowaga, NY/Maryvale) and James Zeiger (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) also seeing playing time.
On Saturday, April 11th, the Spartans will play in the first round of the NEAC Playoffs, hosted by Medaille. Their match will be against Wells at 2pm.
