Men's Volleyball Rights Ship, Gets Big Win Over Behrend

Erie, PA – The D'Youville men's volleyball team broke their six game losing streak on Wednesday evening by defeating the Penn State-Behrend Lions by the final score of 3-1.

In the first set, Behrend would get out to an early lead. The Spartans would get to within one, trailing 10-9 and again at 19-18, but the Lions would go on to win the first set 25-19.

The second set was a much different outcome. D'Youville held an 8-6 before they would go on to score six consecutive points and take a commanding lead over Behrend. The team would continue to play at a high level throughout the second set and win by the score of 25-19.

Behrend had a better start in the third set, tying the Spartans at 5-5 early on. However, D'Youville would begin to put some distance between themselves and the host Lions. With a 18-12 lead, the Spartans continued to play a strong game, winning the third set again by the score 25-19.

The Lions came out to fend off a loss in the fourth set, taking an 11-7 lead before the Spartans would surge back. With their first win in the last several matches in sight, D'Youville would pull away from a 17-17 tied to score eight of the next nine points and win the fourth set 25-18 and the match 3-1.

Sophomore Brock Tetreault (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) continued to be a big source of offense for the Spartans, leading the team with 16 kills. Brock added eight digs, third to Chris Busha (Hamburg, NY/St. Francis) with 11 and nine from Ryan Kilijanski (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West). Busha also led the team with 42 assists.

Evan Singer (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South) had a strong game with 12 kills. Matt Loos (Cheektowaga, NY/Maryvale) hadded nine kills and a team high five total blocks. Freshman Alex Ritter (Pittsburgh, PA/Our Lady of the Sacred Heart) had a very good all-around match with 12 kills, five digs and a team high three service aces.

D'Youville will return to action this weekend on Saturday, February 13th against SUNYIT at 2pm and Wells at 6pm, hosted by the Medaille.
