Buffalo, NY – The D'Youville men's volleyball team fell to the Medaille Mavericks on Tuesday evening by the score of 3-1 and lost the season series to the Mavericks 2-0.
Medaille took the lead in the first set but not without a pushback from the Spartans. D'Youville made a run at the Mavericks but Medaille came back strong and took a 25-17 victory over the Spartans in the first set.
D'Youville responded in the second set to the tune of a 6-3 lead. The Mavericks came back to take a 13-11 lead over the Spartans but D'Youville would come back themselves and tied the set at 20-20. The Spartans then were within a point of victory at 24-21, but Medaille would make it interesting and trail 24-23. However, D'Youville would get the clinching point on the next serve and win the second set 25-23.
In the third and fourth sets, the Mavericks reached an early lead and never looked back. Medaille would lead 17-11 in each set and go on to win each set 25-18 and the match 3-1.
Chris Busha (Hamburg, NY/St. Francis) led the team with eight kills in the match, followed by Brock Tetreault (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) with seven. Busha also led the team with nine digs with Ryan Kilijanski (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) tallying seven.
Senior Evan Singer (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville East) led the team with five total blocks. Busha added three along with Collin McMahon (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island). McMahon had a team high 17 assists. Zachery Bochacki (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) added two kills in the match.
The men will travel to Hilbert on Thursday, March 31st to play the Hawks at 7pm.
