Men's Volleyball Fall in First Two Matches of Weekend

Lancaster, PA – The D'Youville men's volleyball team went 0-2 on their opening day at Lancaster Bible on Friday afternoon, falling to the Lancaster Bible Chargers 3-1 and 3-0 to the Wilson Phoenix.

The first match of the day between Lancaster Bible and D'Youville was tightly contested each of the four sets. After trailing by four in the first set, the Spartans would come back to tie it at 17-17. Lancaster Bible would begin to pull away as the set went on, winning 25-21. The second set was led by the Chargers 12-8 and then 19-14 before D'Youville would go on a run and tie the set at 23-23. They would then score the final two points and win second set 25-23.

Set number three was led by Lancaster Bible from beginning to end, with D'Youville pulling to within four of the Chargers at 22-18 before they would go on to win 25-18. D'Youville had an early 7-6 lead but Lancaster Bible came back to take a 15-13 lead. They then went up 21-15 and eventually would win the set 25-19 and the match 3-1.

Junior Pat Stroh (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) had another impressive game for the Spartans with a team high 20 kills. Collin McMahon (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) had a team high 31 assists, while James Zeiger (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) led the team with 12 digs. Three other D'Youville players had at least four kills in the match.

In the second match of the day, D'Youville fell to the Wilson Phoenix in three sets, 25-23, 25-22 and 25-23. Stroh led the team with 22 kills in the match, followed by Ryan Kilijanski (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) with 11. McMahon recorded a team high 34 assists.

The next match for the men comes tomorrow on Saturday, February 18 as the men play Penn State-Altoona at 11am.
