Men's Volleyball Loses First Conference Match

Keuka, NY – The D'Youville men's volleyball team opened up NEAC play on Saturday morning as they fell to the Keuka Wolfpack 3-1.

It was a very even first set between the two teams. D'Youville pulled ahead 11-9 before the Wolfpack would come back and tie it at 11. The Spartans would then lead 15-12, but Keuka would then tie it at 16 to then take the lead at 18-17. Their lead would then go up to three at 21-18 before D'Youville trailed by one at 21-20. However, Keuka would score the final four points to win the first set 25-20.

The Wolfpack were able to build a lead earlier in the second set, leading 12-9 and then 14-11. D'Youville would then tie it at 17 just to take the lead 20-19 a few points later. Then tied at 21, Keuka was able to pull away and win the second set 25-21.

D'Youville took control of the third set early on, leading 9-6 and then increasing their lead to four at 15-11. The Wolfpack made it a one-point set at 15-14, but the Spartans then scored 10 of the final 15 points to win the third set 25-19 and make the match 2-1.

Another close set ensued in the fourth set of the match. Keuka was up 8-6 before D'Youville tied it at 8-8. The Spartans then went up 14-11 but the Wolfpack then tied it again at 14. It appeared that the match was destined for a fifth set as D'Youville led 23-19, but Keuka scored six consecutive points to win the set 25-23 and the match 3-1.

Zac Bochacki (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) recorded a team high 10 digs, adding two blocks and five kills. Pat Stroh (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) led the team with 16 kills, followed by Ali Khadra (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville East) with eight kills and Logan Krass (Oswego, NY/Owego) with seven. Khadra had a team high four blocks with Danny Steck (Lancaster, NY/St. Francis) tallying three.

Ryan Kilijanski (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) tallied 38 assists with James Zeiger (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) second on the team in digs with nine. Karl Jauch (Lockport, NY/Starpoint) added three digs.

The next match for the men comes tomorrow, February 18 as they play Medaille at 1:00pm at Medaille.
