D'Youville Dominates Saint Elizabeth for Second Conference Win

Buffalo, NY – The D'Youville men's volleyball won their second conference game of the season on Sunday afternoon, defeating the Saint Elizabeth Eagles by the score of 3-1.

D'Youville dominated the first set over Saint Elizabeth. Pat Stroh (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) and Logan Krass (Oswego, NY/Oswego) serving resulted in points nearly every time they served. Tied at two, Stroh served and the Spartans scored 12 consecutive points to lead 14-2. Krass then took over with the score 15-3 and led the team to seven straight points for a 21-3 lead. The team would then go on to win the first set 25-5.

The second set was a similar story as the Spartans as they took it to the Eagles. Ryan Kilijanski (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) and Zac Bochacki (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) led the team to a 9-1 lead as both were extremely effective serving the ball. That lead grew to 16-7 and the men eventually went on to win the second set 25-11.

Saint Elizabeth woke up in the third and gave the Spartans plenty to handle. They led 9-4 before D'Youville pulled within two at 15-13. The Spartans then tied it at 15-15 but the Eagles were able to keep the lead until it was tied again at 23-23. At 24-23, the Spartans took the lead and were within one point of winning the set and the match, but Saint Elizabeth fought back. The Eagles took over the lead at 27-26 and then scored the next point to win the set 28-26.

In the fourth set, the Spartans got back on track. They led 5-1 before taking a 10-3 lead over the Eagles. D'Youville extended their lead to 10 at 19-9 and then doubled their lead at 24-12, then scoring the final point of the match to win 25-12 and the match 3-1.

Kilijanski and Stroh had an outstanding day serving the ball, recording eight and seven service aces respectfully. Bochacki led the team in kill with seven and James Oliver (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South) added seven kills, a career high. Danny Steck (Lancaster, NY/St. Francis) and Stroh also chipped in five kills.

Krass added two service aces and four kills in the match with Karl Jauch (Lockport, NY/Starpoint) tallying a kill and two digs. Chance MacDowell (Bloomfield, NY/Bloomfield) had a team high seven digs and Kilijanski led the team with 29 assists. Matt Marzec (Amherst, NY/Williamsville North) accounted for a service ace as well.

The next match for the Spartans comes this Wednesday, March 21 as they host the Medaille Mavericks at 7:00pm.
