Greenville, PA – The D'Youville men's volleyball team lost to the Thiel Tomcats on Wednesday evening by the final score of 3-1.
D'Youville dominated the beginning of the first set. They led 10-1 before Thiel was able to get going to trail 13-8. That lead continued to shrink as the Tomcats trailed by three at 17-14, but the Spartans would tally eight of the next 11 points to win the first set 25-17.
In the second set, Thiel would collect themselves and lead 14-6. D'Youville pulled to within five at 20-15, but the Tomcats would continue their strong play and win the set 25-18, tying the match at 1-1.
Thiel carried their strong second set into the third to lead 10-1 early. They rolled through the third with a 25-14 set victory as the Spartans were on the verge of losing the match in the fourth.
Trailing by two at 8-6, D'Youville would score five straight points to lead 11-8. They held their lead late in the set as the Spartans were ahead 22-20, but the Tomcats would score five of the final six points in the fourth to win the set 25-23 and the match 3-1.
Ryan Kilijanski (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) led the team with 11 kills and 12 digs for a double-double. Chance MacDowell (Bloomfield, NY/Bloomfield) led the team with 14 digs with Pat Stroh (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) tallying 10 kills.
Ali Khadra (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville East) recorded a team high four blocks to go with six assists. Karl Jauch (Lockport, NY/Starpoint) had 24 assists with Zac Bochacki (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) adding four kills.
The final two road matches for the season will come for the men this Saturday, April 6 as they head to Wittenberg to take on Penn State-Altoona at 1:00pm and Wittenberg at 4:00pm.
