Loss to Golden Wolves Begins Spartan's Weekend at Alvernia

Reading, PA - The D'Youville men's volleyball team opened up their weekend at Alvernia University on Friday evening with a lost to the host Alvernia Golden Wolves 3-0.

Alvernia jumped out to early lead in the first set at 8-3. They would then go on to double their lead to 17-7 on their way to a 25-10 first set victory.

The Spartans would regain their composure to begin the second set. D'Youville led 9-8 before Alvernia would go on a 13-0 scoring run to take over the second with a 21-9 lead. A short run from the Spartans would leave them trailing 22-15, but they would end up losing the second 25-17.

In the third, Alvernia would carry over their strong play from the second. The Golden Wolves led 7-3 and then 9-5 before going on a 16-4 run to end the third, winning the match 3-0.

Dan Busha (Hamburg, NY/St. Francis) led the team with seven kills while Ali Khadra (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville East) added six kills and two blocks. Karl Jauch (Lockport, NY/Starpoint) added two kills and five assists while Anthony Dean (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Falls) led the way with eight assists. Mitch Mason (Eden, NY/Eden) recorded a team-high seven digs.

D'Youville will remain at Alvernia to play two matches on Saturday against Baruch at 12:00pm and Neumann at 2:00pm.
