Buffalo, NY - The D'Youville men's volleyball team played in their first AMCC match of the season on Wednesday evening as the men fell to the visiting Penn State-Behrend Lions by the final score of 3-0.
Behrend jumped out to an early lead in the first set of the match, leading 9-3 over the Spartans. That lead would more than double as the set went on with the Lions leading 18-9 on their way to a 25-15 first set victory.
The Spartans would get out to a quick 4-3 lead in the second before Behrend would come back to go ahead by seven at 13-6. That lead increased to eight at 20-12 before D'Youville would make a late run to trail by three at 20-23. However, the Lions would close out the set with two final points to win the second 25-20.
Much like the first set, the Lions would go ahead early with the score 8-4 in the third. The deficit would increase to five at 15-10 and then double to 10 at 22-12 with Behrend taking the third 25-13 and the match 3-0.
Dan Busha (Hamburg, NY/St. Francis) led the team with 12 kills. Karl Jauch (Lockport, NY/Starpoint) tallied 16 assists with Mitch Mason (Eden, NY/Eden) registering eight digs. Ali Khadra (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville East) led the way with two blocks while Danny Steck (Lancaster, NY/St. Francis) and Joshua Hoy (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) had two kills each.
Anthony Dean (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Falls) chipped in with four kills while William Anderson (Lake View, NY/Frontier) registered one dig and Troy Stancampiano (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville East) had three.
The next pair of matches for the men will come this Saturday, February 22 at Nazareth. D'Youville will play Elizabethtown at 2:00pm while taking on the host Golden Flyers at 4:00pm.
