Thiel Gives D'Youville First Road Conference Lost

Greenville, PA - The D'Youville men's volleyball team lost their first road conference game of the season to the Thiel Tomcats on Wednesday evening by the final score of 3-0.

Following an early 6-3 Thiel lead, the Spartans came back to tie the first set at 10-10. The Tomcats would then go on a run to go ahead 21-15 before D'Youville trailed 19-23. However, Thiel would close out the set to take the first 25-22.

In the second, the Tomcats went up early 12-4 as the deficit was cut to six just a few points later. Thiel would continue their strong play from beginning to end of the second to win the set 25-14.

The third saw the Tomcats again come out strong to lead 10-5, but D'Youville would quickly cut their deficit to two at 11-13. That two point score discrepancy was the smallest it would get for the rest of the third as Thiel went on to win the third 25-18 and the match 3-0.

Anthony Dean (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Falls) and Dan Busha (Hamburg, NY/St. Francis) tallied eight kills each in the match. Mitch Mason (Eden, NY/Eden) tallied nine digs while Troy Stancampiano (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville East) added seven with two kills. Ali Khadra (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville East) added two kills with one block.

Karl Jauch (Lockport, NY/Starpoint) registered 18 assists while William Anderson (Lake View, NY/Frontier) tallied three digs. Juan Centeno (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville North) and Joshua Hoy (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) each played quality minutes against the Tomcats.

The next pair of matches for the men will come this weekend at Medaille as they take on Penn State-Altoona and Wittenberg at 12:00pm and 2:00pm.
