Erie, PA- D'Youville's cross country team opened the 2013 season at the Penn St. Behrend Invitational. The men's team placed 9th out of 14 teams with a team score of 299. After setting a new school record with his 8K run from September 7th, freshman Matthew Silver (Rome, NY / Rome Free Academy) broke that record today with a record time of 27:18. Silver led the team by placing 29th overall out of 137 runners. Following Silver was Freshman Christopher Rumpl (Kenmore, NY / Kenmore West) with a time of 30:51.
The women's team was led by Sophomore Emily Quast (Lockport, NY/Lockport) who placed 32rd out of 123 runners with a time of 20:59. Following Quast was Maria Fusco (Clifton Park, NY / Shenendehowa) with a time of 21:42. The women were able to finish 10th out of 14 teams with a team score of 293.
The cross country team will compete next Saturday, September 21st at the Hobart & William Smith Invitational. The women's team will begin at 11AM with the men following at 12PM.
