Men's Cross Country Turns In Record Setting Performance at AMCC Championship
Buffalo, NY-Men's cross country played host to the 2013 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championship and the Spartans made quite a splash at their own party. The squad finished fourth out of the 10 ten teams making it the program's highest finish at the conference championship.
Five Spartan runners placed in the top half of the standings and D'Youville finished with a team score of 152.
Matthew Silver (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) was the top Spartan for the fifth time this season. The freshman ran the eight-kilometer course in 28:13 and finished 18th out of 92 competitors.
Christopher Rumpl (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore West) turned in a season-high eight-kilometer time of 29:39, good for 29th place. Jordan Johnson (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown) was 32nd with a time of 30:23. Zachary Ward (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) also ran a season-best 8K in 31:11, good for 35th place. Anthony Oliveri (Wheatfield, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) completed the course in 31:23 and placed 38th.
Rounding out the scoring was Brad Huff (Hamburg, NY/Frontier) in 51st (33:31), and Michael Helmicki in 58th (36:45). Also competing for D'Youville today were Kyle Fancher (Albion, NY/Notre Dame) and Charbel Mansour.
"Our guys have been looking forward to today all season and they did great today," said Spartan coach Bill Maloney. "To put it all together and run their best in this event is really something special."
D'Youville finished 9th out of 10 at the 2012 AMCC Championship.
Penn State Behrend won the AMCC Championship with a team score of 27. Behrend's Denny Lydon just beat out Penn State Altoona's Jason Anna at the finish. Lydon's time was 26:28.
