Buffalo, N.Y.- D'Youville College President Sister Denise A. Roche and the Athletic Department gathered this evening at Salvatore's Italian Gardens to announce their major departmental award winners and team award winners at the Spartans' Annual Banquet.
Head coach Bill Maloney presented the men's cross-country team awards.
Named the team's Most Valuable Runner was freshman Matthew Silver (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) who ran in five events and posted the team's best time in all five. Silver set a new school record for the eight-kilometer distance with a time of 28:16.37 on 9/7/13 then broke it a week later on 9/14/13 with a time of 27:18.
Freshman Christopher Rumpl (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore West) was named the team's Most Improved Runner. Rumpl posted the team's second-best finish and personal career-best eight-kilometer time of 29:38 at the AMCC Championship.
Second year runner Anthony Oliveri (Wheatfield, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) was the recipient of the team's Spartan Award. That award is given to the player who best exemplifies the ideals of teamwork, desire, and dedication to their program. Oliveri was named to the AMCC Academic All-Conference Team and had a season-best eight-kilometer time of 31:23 at the AMCC Championship.
