Buffalo, NY - Wednesday, April 29th marked the day of celebration and recognition for all of D'Youville's student-athletes at the yearly Athletics Awards Banquet at Salvatore's Italian Garden.
Head Coach Bill Maloney presented the awards to the runners of his D'Youville Men's Cross Country Team.
For the second straight season, Matthew Silver (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) was the team's Most Valuable Player. In the first race of the season, Silver made school history in the 5K with a time of 17:49.45. With his impressive running over the season, Matthew was named as an AMCC All-Conference selection. Silver finished eleventh in the AMCC Championships.
Earning the team's Most Improved Player was Brian Buttaggi (Weber, NY/Weber). Throughout the season, Buttaggi's times continued to shrink as he became a stronger runner. Brian's season was highlighted a fifth overall finish at the Meghan Memorial with a time of 18:43 in the 5K.
Last season's MIP, Christopher Rumpl (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore West), was named this season's Spartan Award winner. Christopher continued to work hard in every race, showing his determination until he reached his season's best time in the 8K with 30:10.
