Erie, PA - The D'Youville men's cross country team competed in their first 8k race of the season Saturday morning, finishing seventh in the Penn State-Behrend Invitational.
Junior Brian Buttaggi (Penfield, NY/Webster Schroeder) set the pace for the Spartans with a time of 31:40, good for 38th place overall. Running his first race for D'Youville was newcomer Patrick Leslie (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads), who ran a time of 32:09. Jakob McDaneld (Silver Creek, NY/Silver Creek) came in as the third D'Youville runner with a time of 33:41, while Christopher Rumpl (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore East) came in with a time of 35:08.
Andrew Tantalo (Greece, NY/Home School), David Braun (Okinawa, Japan/Kadena) and Matthew Buttaggi (Penfield, NY/Webster Schroder) rounded out the D'Youville runners for the invtitational. They finished with the times of 35:24, 35:34 and 40:36, respectively.
The conditions of the race were extremely muddy and a torrential downpour. All seven of the D'Youville runners gave an outstanding effort.
The Next race for the men will come next week at the Roberts Wesleyans/Harry Anderson Invitational.
