Men's Cross Country Takes Top Spot at Meghan Memorial

Hamburg, NY - The D'Youville men's cross country team ran an outstanding race Saturday morning by finishing first in the Meghan Memorial, hosted by Hilbert College.

Continuing his trend of running strong races, junior Brian Buttaggi (Penfield, NY/Webster Schroeder) was the top Spartan runner and the top overall runner for the men with an impressive time of 18:35. Behind Buttaggi were a pair of freshman in Patrick Leslie (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) and Jakob McDaneld (Silver Creek, NY/Silver Creek) who finished third and fourth respectively, both finishing with the time of 18:49.

Two other D'Youville runners finished in the top ten as David Braun (Okinawa, Japan/Kadena) finished ninth and Christopher Rumpl (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore East) finished 10th. Braun beat out Rumpl as David ran a time of 20:06 and Rumpl had a time of 20:07.

Closely following those two was Andrew Tantalo (Greece, NY/Home School) with a time of 20:11. Matthew Buttaggi (Penfield, NY/Webster Schroeder) rounded out the D'Youville runners with a time of 21:45.

The men will race again next Saturday, October 15th as they travel to the CCOC Championships. The 8k race begins at 12pm.
