Hamburg, NY – The D'Youville men and women's cross country teams had excellent performances on Saturday morning with the women taking first and the men taking second at the Meghan Memorial, hosted by Hilbert College.
With six runners in the top 10, the D'Youville women took first overall. Rachel Luczak(Lancaster, NY/Immaculata) was the top runner for the Spartans and took second overall with a time of 21:29. Finishing five, six, and seven were Rachel Johnson(Jamestown, NY/Jamestown), Stephanie Lisiecki (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca East), and Alison Gareis (Buffalo, NY/Buffalo Seminary) with times of 22:59, 23:01, and 23:27 respectively.
Collecting two more top 10 finishes were Kaitlyn Furtado (Acushnet, MA/Fairhaven)and Jenna Donati (Depew, NY/Depew). Furtado came in ninth with a time 24:36 and Donati was right behind her with a time of 24:39. Not far off was Callan Smith(Amherst, NY/Amherst) in twelfth after finishing with a time of 24:54. Mary Blackley(Lockport, NY/Blackley Academy) and Danielle Couch (Wheatfield, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) each had solid times and contributed to the team's first place victory.
Three runners for the men raced to top 10 finishes, helping the team take second overall. David Oswald (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) placed fourth overall and first for the Spartans with a time of 19:08. Following him in sixth overall was Brian Buttaggi (Webster, NY/Webster-Schroeder) at a pace of 19:26. Just six seconds behind Buttaggi was Andrew Tantalo (Greece, NY/Home School), who earned seventh overall and ran a time of 19:32.
Zac Bochacki (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) was right outside the top 10 as he came in with a time of 20:12, eleventh overall. Joseph Frailey (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island)was two spots behind Bochacki with a time of 20:17, good for thirteenth overall. Edward Apen (East Aurora, NY/Home School) and Matthew Buttaggi (Webster, NY/Webster-Schroeder)both finished inside the top 20 and helped push the team's second place finish.
The next race for both teams comes next Saturday, October 14 as they compete at the Cross Country only Championhsip.
