Geneva, NY – The D'Youville cross country teams competed in the Cross Country only College Championships on Saturday morning with both teams bringing home top-seven finishes.
With a fourth place overall finish, the women's team had their best ever finish at the CCOC Championships. Continuing her recent string of strong races was Rachel Luczak (Lancaster, NY/Immaculata) with a time of 26:30.7, a personal best for a 6k that earned her 14th overall. Kathryn Piraino (Nunda, NY/Keshequa) also ran another strong race with a time of 27:55.3 for the second overall on the women's team.
Stephanie Lisiecki (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca East) and Rachel Johnson (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown) were third and fourth for the Spartans with times of 29:00.6 and 29:01.3 respectively. Freshman Kaitlyn Furtado (Acushnet, MA/Fairhaven) and Alison Gareis (Buffalo, NY/Buffalo Seminary), along with senior Callan Smith (Amherst, NY/Amherst) all finished under 31:00, with Smith finishing the 6k with a personal best. Jenna Donati (Depew, NY/Depew), Mary Blackley (Lockport, NY/Blackley Academy), and Danielle Couch (Wheatfield, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) finished out the field for D'Youville, with Couch being the third member of the team to run a personal best at the meet.
Finishing in 7th overall were the D'Youville men as David Oswald (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) led the way with a time of 31:53.7 in the 8k. Behind Oswald finishing with a time of 32:40.2 was Brian Buttaggi (Webster, NY/Webster-Schroeder), followed by Zachery Bochacki (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) with the time of 34:12.2.
Freshmen Joseph Frailey (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) and Edward Apen (East Aurora, NY/Home School) came in with solid times for the men. Matthew Buttaggi (Webster, NY/Webster-Schroeder) and Logan Krass (Oswego, NY/Oswego) rounded out the Spartan runners in the meet for the men with strong times.
The next race for two teams will be their last of the season as they will run in the AMCC Championship on Saturday, October 28 at Evangola State Park.
