Depew, NY - Wednesday, May 1 marked a day of celebration and recognition for all of D'Youville's student-athletes at the yearly Athletics Awards Banquet at Salvatore's Hospitality.
Assistant coach Kyle Trimble presented the awards to the D'Youville men's cross country team.
Freshman Dalton Holthouse (Clymer, NY/Clymer) took home the Most Improved Player award to lead off the awards for the men. Holthouse participated in four races with his 8k race time dropping each race. He saved his best race for last as he finished 24th overall in the AMCC Championship with a time of 33:19.4 in the 8k - good for fourth on the team overall.
The Spartan Award went to sophomore David Oswald (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) for the second consecutive season. Oswald was one of the best runners for the men throughout the season, finishing no worse than third amongst all D'Youville runners in all seven of the team's races. To open the season, David finished with his best time of the season in a 5k with 19:42. He then followed up with a season best time of 30:22.6 in the 8k at the Harry F. Anderson Invitational. Oswald was also the team's Sportsmanship Award recipient from the AMCC. The Spartan Award represents a player who exemplifies teamwork, passion and a dedication to their team.
In his first year with the team, junior Patrick Moran (Wheatfield, NY/Niagara CCC) was the team's top runner and the recipient of the team's Most Valuable Player award. In all seven races in the fall, Moran finished as the top male runner for the Spartans. In both the Meghan Memorial and Hilbert Fall Classic, Moran took first overall amongst all runners. To begin the season he took third overall at the Buffalo State Invitational, fourth overall at the CCOC, and finished ninth at the AMCC Championship. He was named to the AMCC All-Conference team.
