Softball Edged in Two Close Games

Clermont, FL- Two one-run defeats were suffered by the Spartan softball team on day two of their Florida trip.

D'Youville jumped out to a 2-0 in the first inning against Elmhurst on RBI singles from Courtney Clark (Webster, NY/Webster) and MacKenzie Kehlenbeck (Oakfield, NY/Oakfield-Alabama). The Spartans extended the lead to 3-0 in the fifth on an RBI single by Lauren DeVantier (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield).

Elmhurst scored 3 in the fifth and 2 in the sixth with the Spartans only answering with a run in the top of the seventh making it a 5-4 final.

Ashley Covel (Basom, NY/Oakfield-Alabama) started the game, giving up 2 runs in four and a third innings. Kalie McHenry (Amherst, NY/Sweet Home) finished the game and was tagged with the loss.

D'Youville started the day with a 3-2 loss to Lawrence (WI).

The Spartans continue play the National Training Center in Clermont, Florida March 23 with a 3:00 p.m. game against Loras College (IA) followed by a 5:00 p.m. meeting with St. Olaf College (MN).
