Spartans Do Damage with the Long Ball Versus Hilbert

Hamburg, NY-D'Youville had a big inning in each game powered the same way, by a grand slam, to take two AMCC games from Hilbert College. Game scores were 8-0 and 13-5. The games were played at Hilbert College but D'Youville was the 'home' team.

Shannon Evans (Cheektowaga, NY/East Aurora) hit a grand slam in the first inning and pitcher Kalie McHenry (Amherst, NY/Sweet Home) fired a one-hitter and struck out five to win her sixth game of the season.
 
MacKenzie Kehlenbeck (Oakfield, NY/Oakfield-Alabama) hit an RBI double in the first to get the big inning started.
The Spartans scored 6 times in the first and twice in the second to make it shortened five-inning affair.
In game two it was McHenry who delivered the grand slam, this one in the third inning to break open a 3-3 game. McHenry had come on in relief in the top of inning and pitched the final two and a third innings and striking out five to get her second win of the day and move to 7-7 on the season.
Sara Persutti (Cheektowaga, NY/West Seneca East) also went yard, hitting a two-run shot in the second inning.

D'Youville (15-11, 12-4 AMCC) stays in the hunt for the AMCC regular-season title, trailing Pitt-Bradford by a game in the standings. The Spartans play a non-conference game versus St. John Fisher tomorrow on their home field at the Amherst Northtown Center. Doubleheader start time is 3:00 p.m.
