Softball Drops Two Non-Conference Games

Softball Drops Two Non-Conference Games

Williamsville, N.Y.-Softball got to face the reigning Division III National Pitcher of the Week Sarah Stefanon, twice. And in the first game, the Spartans almost had another episode of seventh-inning magic.

Down 2-0, The Spartans scored one run with two outs and left runners on second and third but Fisher's Stefanon ended the threat with a strikeout to end the game with the score 2-1.

Shannon Evans (Cheektowaga, NY/East Aurora) went 2-3. The Spartan's catcher doubled in the second inning and started the seventh-inning rally with a single and later scored on a two-out single from Sara Persutti (Cheektowaga, NY/West Seneca East). MacKenzie Kehlenbeck (Oakfield, NY./Oakfield-Alabama) also went 2-3 in the opener.

The Spartans had another threat earlier in the game. In the third inning D'Youville had runners on second and third with one out but Stefanon recorded two strikeouts to end the D'Youville bid.

The second game was just too much St. John Fisher. It was 5-0 before the Spartans answered with 3 in the sixth. Lauren DeVantier (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) hit an RBI-single and Jessica Banning (Amherst, NY/Amherst) drove in two with a single later in the inning, one her two hits in the game.

The visitors iced the game with five in the seventh to take the nightcap 10-3.

D'Youville returns to AMCC play tomorrow (April 27) with two games at La Roche College. Start time is 1:00 p.m. The Spartans will be eyeing the results of tomorrow's Pitt-Bradford at Penn State Altoona doubleheader to determine who will host the AMCC Tournament.
