Softball Splits in Final Tune Up Before Tournament

Williamsville, N.Y.-Playing a non-conference doubleheader versus Geneseo St., D'Youville rallied from a 4-0 deficit and scored the tying and winning runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to take game one 5-4.

Courtney Clark (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) hit an RBI double to tie and Lauren DeVantier (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) ended the game with an RBI double. It a the second-straight game DeVantier has produced the game winning RBI in the team's final at-bat.

MacKenzie Kehlenbeck (Oakfield, NY/Oakfield-Alabama) hit an RBI triple in the third and started the seventh-inning rally with a double.

Game two saw the Spartans fall behind 3-0 after the first and chip away with a run in the second inning and later tie the game with a pair in the fifth. Clark and Shannon Sutton (Lykens, PA/Upper Dauphin) came up with RBI singles.

Those in attendance were treated to some extra frames of action. No scoring in the eighth. Geneseo scored one in the ninth only to have D'Youville tie the game on a Kehlenbeck RBI single. The visitors scored a pair in the tenth to take another their third lead of the game. The Spartans would have runners on second and third with no out but leave the tying runs stranded to end the game 6-4 in favor of Geneseo.

Next for the Spartans is the AMCC Tournament May 3-5 at Penn State Altoona. D'Youville is the #2 seed and opens play in the double-elimination event Friday (May 3) at 5:00 p.m. versus the winner of the #3 Pitt-Bradford and #6 Penn State Behrend game played earlier in the day.
