Spartans Battle No. 18 Carthage

Clermont, FL-Softball took on eighteenth ranked Carthage College (WI) and the Spartans had a good showing. Despite losing the 3-0 decision to the nationally ranked Lady Reds, the Spartans had a pretty good look at this one.

Four times in the first four innings, D'Youville had a runner in scoring position. Two of those times came with less than two outs.

Carthage scored a two-out run in the third and later tacked on two insurance runs in the fifth.

Lauren DeVantier (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Wheatfield) and Ashley Colon (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) each went 1-3 with a double.

D'Youville pitcher Kalie McHenry (Amherst, NY/Sweet Home) took the loss in a complete game effort. The Spartan's ace has had four quality starts in Florida, going the distance in each, with only one win. The Spartans were shut out in each of the three losses McHenry was tagged with.

In the second game of the day, DeVantier and Shannon Sutton (Lykens, PA/Upper Dauphin)each had an RBI single in the Spartans' 10-2 loss to Buena Vista (IA).

Outfielder Lydia Monin (Buffalo, NY/Tapestry Charter School) two-game total on the day was 3-6 at the plate.

D'Youville wraps up the Florida portion of the schedule March 25 at the National Training Center in Clermont with a 3:00 p.m. meeting with Luther (IA) and a 5:00 p.m. tilt versus Concordia (WI).
