Williamsville, NY-In the first game of today's AMCC doubleheader versus Franciscan University, Spartan pitcher Kalie McHenry (Amherst, NY/Sweet Home) tossed her first career no-hitter and struck out a career-high 13 to lead D'Youville to an 8-0 win.
The right-handed sophomore allowed just one baserunner in six innings pitched. A base on balls in third was the only blemish on her leger.
D'Youville took advantage of early Franciscan errors, scoring two runs in the second inning on just one hit.
D'Youville broke open the game with four runs in the fifth. Amanda Drake (West Winfield, NY/Mount Markham) opened the inning with a bunt single, stole second, and scored on a Lauren DeVantier (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) base hit. A Shannon Evans (Cheektowaga, NY/East Aurora) sacrifice fly, followed by RBI singles from Shannon Sutton (Lykens, PA/Upper Dauphin) and Hannah Turek (Depew, NY/Lancaster) made it 6-0.
Evans would force the eight-run rule into effect with a two-run double in the sixth to end the game.
Hannah Turek would get the start in game two and record her first career shutout as the Spartans cruised to a 9-0 in in just five innings. Shannon Evans went 3-3 and scored a pair of runs.
