Erie, PA-Fourth seeded Pitt-Bradford scored early in the game and went on to beat fifth seeded D'Youville 3-0 in the first-round of the AMCC Softball Tournament.
The Panthers scored in the bottom of the first on a triple and a sacrifice fly. In the second they tacked on two more, both coming with two outs.
The Spartans did have opportunities to break through.
Alison Hall(Cheektowaga, NY/Depew) was left on base after a two out double in the third inning. MacKenzie Kehlenbeck(Oakfield, NY/Oakfield-Alabama) doubled to open the fourth inning and was left on third. Lisa Petty(North Tonawanda, NY/Mount St. Mary Academy) singled to open the fifth, advanced to second after an Amanda Drake (West Winfield, NY/Mount Markham) sacrifice, and was left stranded. All told the Spartans were 0-5 with runners in scoring position.
Spartans' pitcher Kalie McHenry(Amherst, NY/Sweet Home)shut down Pitt-Bradford from the third inning on, allowing just two hits and striking out four.
The loss sends D'Youville to the elimination bracket. Tomorrow (May 3) at 9 a.m. the Spartans will third-seed Mount Aloysius.
