Softball Battles Until the End in 6-5 Loss to Mount Aloysius

Erie, PA-A furious Spartan rally in the top of the seventh with two outs came up just short and D'Youville fell to Mount Aloysius 6-5 in an elimination game at the AMCC Tournament.

Down to their final out and trailing 6-3, Alison Hall (Cheektowaga, NY/Depew) walked, Lauren DeVantier (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) singled and MacKenzie Kehlenbeck (Oakfield, NY/Oakfield-Alabama) walked to load the bases.

Shannon Evans (Cheektowaga, NY/East Aurora) doubled down the left field line to score two and bring the Spartans to within one. That's as far as the comeback would get. D'Youville would leave the tying run on third and the winning run at second.

The Spartans had been chasing third-seeded Mount Aloysius all game.

The Mounties opened the game's scoring with a run in the first. D'Youville would tie the game in the top of the second on an Amanda Drake (West Winfield, NY/Mount Markham) RBI single.

Two Mountie runs in third would be matched by a Spartan two- spot in the fifth. A DeVantier RBI groundout and an RBI single from Kehlenbeck knotted the game at three apiece.

Mount Aloysius took their final lead of the game with a three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth to make it a 6-3 game.

DeVantier was 2-4 on the day with an RBI and finished as the Spartans' leading hitter with a .403 average. Kehlenbeck was 1-2 with an RBI, drew two walks, and finished as the team's RBI leader with 23. Pitcher Kalie McHenry (Amherst, NY/Sweet Home) went the distance for her conference leading 19th complete game of the season.

Coming up this week will be the announcement as to how many Spartans will be named to the AMCC All-Conference team.
