Softball Opens Up Final Day of Spring Training with Win

Clermont, FL - On the final day of games in Clermont, Florida, the D'Youville Softball Team opened up the day with a win, defeating Colby College by the final score of 3-0.

The Spartans went hitless in the first inning, with the Mules recording 1 hit in the bottom of the inning. D'Youville picked up their first hit in the second inning off the bat of Sarah Marino (Buffalo, NY/Holy Angels Academy). Colby didn't manage to get a hit in their half of the inning, ending the second inning tied 0-0.

Ashley Colan (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) and pitcher Jessica Banning (Amherst, NY/Amherst) put D'Youville on the board after both crossed the plate in the top of the third. Lydia Monin (Buffalo, NY/Tapestry Charter School) picked up the RBIs on her third double of the season. In the next at-bat, Monin stole third to get in better scoring position. Amanda Drake (West Winfield, NY/Mount Markham) flied out to center during the same at-bat to drive in Monin, giving D'Youville the 3-0 lead.

After the 3-run third inning, neither team would cross the plate resulting in a 3-0 D'Youville victory.

Banning pitched a complete game shutout, going 7 innings and allowing only 3 hits. The defense behind Banning also played extremely well, committing no errors.

Lydia Monin was the offense star for the game, driving in 2 runs and scoring another, having a hand in all 3 runs. Along with Banning, Marino also recorded a team high 2 hits. Monin recorded 1 hit along with Colan, who showed her patience at the plate earning 2 walks.
