Bradford, PA – Following their game one defeat of the Pitt.-Bradford Panthers, the D'Youville Softball Team continued to roll in game two by defeating the Panthers by the score of 5-4.
Deciding her first home run in game one wasn't enough, shortstop MacKenzie Kehlenbeck (Oakfield, NY/Oakfield-Alabama) hit her second homer of the day in the top of the second inning to give the Spartans a 1-0 lead. Pitt.-Bradford would tie the game in the bottom of the third, making the score 1-1.
In the top of the fifth, Lydia Monin (Buffalo, NY/Tapestry Charter School) led off the inning with a walk. Center fielder Amanda Drake (West Winfield, NY/Mount Markham) doubled to score Monin. Two batters later, Hannah Turek (Depew, NY/Lancaster) singled, bringing home Drake. The Panthers would score in the bottom of the inning, cutting the score to 3-2.
After barely missing her second home run of the season on Saturday, Drake came to the plate and belted a homer in the top of the seventh, bringing Monin home who singled in the previous at-bat. Bradford would score 2 runs in the bottom of the inning, but they would fall a run short as the Spartans grabbed their fifth straight win by defeating the Panthers 5-4.
Picking up her second win of the day and fourth in two days was Kalie McHenry (Amherst, NY/Sweet Home), who pitched 4 innings of relief of Hannah Turek. McHenry struck out 7 in her 4 innings on 3 hits. Turek pitched 3 innings, allowing 1 run on 3 hits.
Amanda Drake led the offense for D'Youville, driving in 3 runs and scoring 2 of her own. Drake and MacKenzie Kehlenbeck each homered while Lydia Monin scored 2 runs.
The Spartans will return home for their next game on Tuesday, April 14th at 3/5pm against the Penn State-Behrend Lions.
