Cresson, PA – Taking on the Mounties after their game one 3-1 win, the D'Youville Softball Team completed their sweep in game two on Saturday by the final score of 5-3.
Lydia Monin (Buffalo, NY/Tapestry Charter School) led off the game with a single. After a sac-bunt and passed ball, Monin reached third base. She then scored the first run of the game when Hannah Turek (Depew, NY/Lancaster) reached first on an error from the Mounties' third baseman. Turek would increase her RBI total in the third inning, hitting a 2-run homerun after Lauren DeVantier (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) singled.
In the fourth inning, Sarah Marino (Buffalo, NY/Holy Angles Academy) doubled to begin the inning. With two outs, Monin came to bat and singled, driving in Marino and increasing the lead to 4-0. Mount Aloysius scored 2 runs in the bottom of the fourth, followed by 1 run in the bottom of the fifth to make the game 4-3 D'Youville.
After scoring a run in the fourth, Marino picked up an RBI of her own in the sixth. MacKenzie Kehlenbeck (Oakfield, NY/Oakfield-Alabama) walked as the first batter of the inning. Marino doubled to bring in the speedy Kehlenbeck and bring the game to its final score, 5-3.
Kalie McHenry (Amherst, NY/Oakfield-Alabama) picked up her second win of the day after pitching 4 innings and allowing 2 earned runs. Hannah Turek relieved McHenry, allowing 1 earned run in 3 innings pitched. Turek also got the job done at the plate, driving in 3 runs and scoring 1 run with a homerun.
Three players, Lydia Monin, Lauren DeVantier and Sarah Marino all had 2 hits, with Monin and Marino picking up an RBI each. All 5 runs were scored by different players.
The next pair of games for D'Youville comes on Wednesday, April 22nd at home against Hilbert at 3/5pm.
