Buffalo, NY – Carrying over their offense from their 9-1 game one victory, the D'Youville Softball Team won their seventh game in a row by defeating the Hilbert Hawks in game two by the score of 8-0.
Much like they did in the first game of the doubleheader, the Spartans wasted no time getting a run on the board. Lydia Monin (Buffalo, NY/Tapestry Charter School) walked, followed by a sac-bunt from Amanda Drake (West Winfield, NY/Mount Markham) to move Monin to second. A few batters later, second baseman Alison Hall (Cheektowaga, NY/Depew) doubled to bring home Monin for the game's first run.
In inning number two, Ashley Colan (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) continued her patient hitting, as she has done all season long, and walked to lead off the inning. Pitcher Kalie McHenry (Amherst, NY/Sweet Home) reached on an error, moving Colan to second. Colan and McHenry pulled off a double steal, moving into scoring position. Leadoff hitter Monin came up and grounded out to the shortstop, but drove in Colan and moved McHenry to third. McHenry scored in the next at-bat as Drake struck out but reached first on a passed ball, with Kalie scoring on the throw.
Drake advanced to second on a Lauren DeVantier (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) groundout, and then she stole third. Hannah Turek (Depew, NY/Lancaster) walked followed by Hall getting on first after she was hit by a pitch. Shortstop MacKenzie Kehlenbeck (Oakfield, NY/Oakfield-Alabama) then came to the plate and doubled, bringing home Drake and Turek.
D'Youville wouldn't score again until the fourth inning, but their run total in the fourth would put the game away. Walks to Turek and Sarah Marino (Buffalo, NY/Holy Angels Academy), with a Kehlenbeck double in-between, would load the bases. Colan came to the plate and tripled to drive in all 3 runners, making the score 8-0. Hilbert wouldn't score any runs in the top of the fifth and the game would end with the final of 8-0.
Winning her second game of the day and seventh in-a-row was Kalie McHenry. The junior went 5 innings, allowing no runs and striking out 6. Ashley Colan led the team with 3 RBIs, all coming from her fourth inning triple. Seven different players accounted for runs, with Hannah Turek scoring 2. With 2 hits, MacKenzie Kehlenbeck led the team in hits and was second on the team with 2 RBIs.
The next set of games for the Spartans will come on Friday, April 24th at Fredonia State.
