Erie, PA – The D'Youville softball team swept their first conference doubleheader of the season, defeating the Penn State-Behrend Lions by the scores of 6-3 and 6-5 Wednesday afternoon.
In game one, the Spartans got on the board early. Leadoff hitter Lydia Monin (Buffalo, NY/Tapestry Charter School) was hit by a pitch to get on first. Two batters later, Lauren DeVantier (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) singled to the shortstop to add a second runner on base. Next up, Hannah Turek (Depew, NY/Lancaster) doubled to left center and drove in Monin to make the game 1-0.
Kalie McHenry (Amherst, NY/Sweet Home) then came to bat and cleared the bases with a triple, increasing the Spartan's lead to 3-0 after one inning. Behrend would get two runs back in the bottom of the second and then another run in the bottom of the third and tie the game at 3-3.
DeVantier doubled with two outs in the top of the fifth for the first Spartan baserunner of the inning. Turek then got her second double of the game, driving in DeVantier and giving the Spartans their lead once again. McHenry then followed Turek with an RBI like she did in the first with a single of her own and drove in Turek for a 5-3 D'Youville lead.
Turek's big bat would strike again in the top of seventh as she hit her first home run of the season, giving D'Youville a 6-3 lead. The Spartans would go on to win the game by the same score for their first conference win of the season.

The next two batters, Ashley Colan (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) and Lauren Gawlak (Hamburg, NY/Frontier), reached base to load the bases with no outs.
Monin then reached first on an error to bring in Kehlenbeck for the team's first run. Two batters later, Devantier singled to score Colan, tying the game at 2-2.
