Pittsford, PA – The D'Youville softball team saw their five-game winning streak come to an end on Thursday afternoon, falling to the St. John Fisher Cardinals 1-0 in game one and 7-1 in game two.
Game one of the doubleheader was scoreless up until the fifth inning when the Cardinals took the lead on an RBI double. Their one run was enough as the Fisher pitching was dominate, defeating the Spartans 1-0.
Kalie McHenry (Amherst, NY/Sweet Home) pitched well over six innings allowing one run, striking out five and giving up four hits. It was her 13th complete game of the season.
The Spartans offense would fare better in the second game of the doubleheader. They got runners on base in each of the first two innings, but were unable to bring them across home plate. Fisher would take the lead in the bottom of the third, scoring four runs to take a 4-0 lead.
D'Youville would put runners on base again in the fifth and sixth, but again couldn't put a run on the board. The Cardinals would increase their lead in the bottom of the sixth by three runs, making their lead 7-0.
In the top of the seventh, the Spartans would get their first run of the game. With two outs, Ashley Colan (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) doubled to center field. Lauren Gawlak (Hamburg, NY/Frontier) would then single to right center, moving Colan to third. Next up, Lydia Monin (Buffalo, NY/Tapestry Charter School) singled down the left-field line to drive in Colan. The Spartans would fall in the second game to the Cardinals 7-1.
McHenry picked up her second loss in as many games pitching another complete game over six innings, allowing five earned runs and striking out four. Seven different Spartans recorded a hit in the game, with Monin picking up the lone RBI.
D'Youville will next travel to Penn State-Altoona on Sunday, April 10th to play the Lions in the AMCC Game of the Week at 1/3pm.
