Altoona, PA – The D'Youville softball team went 1-1 in the AMCC Game of the Week against the conference co-leaders, defeating the Penn State-Altoona Lions 7-3 in game one and losing game two 4-3 in extra innings.

The Spartans opened the scoring in game one. Lydia Monin (Buffalo, NY/Tapestry Charter School) led off the game by getting hit by a pitch. In the next at-bat, Darian Evans (Brant, NY/Lake Shore) grounded into a fielder's choice, with Monin being called out at second. Lauren DeVantier (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) would then double, driving in Evans for the 1-0 lead.

Altoona answered back in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at 1-1 but D'Youville would blow the game open in the fourth.

MacKenzie Kehlenbeck (Alabama, NY/Oakfield-Alabama) led off with a walk and moved to second after Lauren Gawlak (Hamburg, NY/Frontier) got hit by a pitch. Kehlenbeck then stole third but the bases would load with a walk to Monin. With two out, DeVantier would come to bat again and pick up her second RBI of the game, scoring Kehlenbeck and giving D'Youville a 2-1 lead.

Next up to bat was Hannah Turek (Depew, NY/Lancaster), who reached on a throwing error from the Altoona third baseman and both Gawlak and Monin would score, extending the lead to 4-1. Following the scored runs, Kalie McHenry (Amherst, NY/Sweet Home) would walk to put three runners on base. Following McHenry's walk to load the bases, Victoria Purucker (North Tonawanda, NY/Starpoint) reached on an error from the Lion's shortstop, scoring DeVantier, Turek and McHenry, giving the Spartans a 7-1 lead.

The Lions would get a run back in the bottom of the fifth, but the lead was insurmountable for Altoona as they would lose game one 7-2.

DeVantier led the team with three hits and two RBI in the game, with McHenry drawing three walks. McHenry picked up her 18th win of the season allowing two earned runs over seven innings and striking out eight.

Penn State would get on the board first in game two, taking a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth. However, the Spartans would take the lead in the next half inning for their first lead of the game.

Monin reached on an error from the Altoona second baseman with one out. Evans would then single, moving Monin to second and both runners would advance a base with a walk to DeVantier in the next at-bat. With the bases load, Turek would single up the middle to drive in Monin and Evans, giving D'Youville a 2-1 lead.

The Spartans added another run to their lead in the top of the sixth with Kehlenbeck reaching base on a single with one out. Ashley Colan (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) would then reach on a fielder's choice and then both runners would move up a base on a wild pitch. Gawlak would then walk in the following at-bat, but Kehlenbeck would score on another wild pitch, increasing the lead to 3-1.

Down to their final out, the Lions would score two runs to tie the game at 3-3 and force extra innings. The game would reach the 10th inning before the tie was broken. With the bases loaded, the Lions hit a sac-fly to drive in the game winning run and would take game two 4-3.

Turek led the team with two RBI in the game, with Evans and DeVantier each recording two hits. McHenry took the loss in game two, pitching 9.2 innings, allowing three earned runs and striking out two.
