Buffalo, NY - The AMCC released their 2017 Preseason Coaches' Poll on Tuesday afternoon with the D'Youville Spartans expected to be one of the conference's best.
The D'Youville softball team was pegged to finish third after finishing tied for first in 2016. D'Youville is coming off back-to-back regular season titles and number one overall seeds in the AMCC softball tournament. In each of the last two years, the Spartans have gone to the championship game.
Last season, the women finished with a 23-13 record overall and a 15-3 conference record. The team had five all-conference players, as well as AMCC Coach of the Year in head coach Ona Halladay. Of those all-conference players, only one returns for this season.
Penn State-Behrend, who met the Spartans in each of the last two conference title games, is pegged to win the AMCC for the third straight season. Penn State-Altoona, who won the championship the two years prior to Behrend, is picked to finish second. Behrend and Altoona share preseason player awards as Behrend has the preseason player of the year and the two teams share preseason co-pitchers of the year.
