Clermont, FL – The D'Youville softball team suffered a pair of losses on Wednesday morning, falling to the Elmhurst Blue Jays 10-2 and the Clarkson Golden Knights 7-0.
After a scoreless first inning against Elmhurst, the Blue Jays put six combined runs on the board in the second and third innings. In the top of the fifth, D'Youville cut their deficit by two with a pair of runs. Therese Losardo (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) scored after reaching second on a throwing error and then scoring on a throwing error in the at-bat of Rylie Russo (Hamburg, NY/Frontier). After Russo reached first, Hannah Turek (Depew, NY/Lancaster) double, making the game 6-2.
However the Blue Jays would add four more runs in bottom of the inning, ending the game and winning by the score of 10-2.
The top three Spartans in the batting order each recorded a hit for D'Youville. Ashley Carney (Clarence, NY/Clarence), Russo and Turek each had a hit, with Turek driving in Russo.
Game number two against Clarkson did not go the way of the Spartans. The Golden Knights scored five runs in the top of the fifth, and then added three more in the top of the seventh. They would go on to win the game by the final score of 7-0.
Carney led the team in hits with two, with Russo, Turek and Victoria Puruker (North Tonawanda, NY/Starpoint) each recording a hit. Alexis Dymond (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore West) pitched seven innings, striking out a career high six batters.
The women close out spring training with a pair of games tomorrow, March 23. They will face Grinell and Wisconsin-Oshkosh.
