Buffalo, NY – The D'Youville softball team won their second half of their postponed doubleheader against the Hilbert Hawks on Monday afternoon, defeating the Hawks by the final of 3-0.
D'Youville opened up the first inning by scoring a pair of runs. Ashley Carney (Clarence, NY/Clarence) led off the game with a single, followed by a sac-bunt from Rylie Russo (Hamburg, NY/Frontier). Megan Meyer (Cheektowaga, NY/Maryvale) then reached base on an error that scored Carney and allowed Meyer to reach third. Jackie Langer (Wexford, PA/Pine Richland) then singled up the middle and stole second, allowing Meyer to score and making the score 2-0.
Meyer and Langer combined to score the team's third run in the third. With two outs, Meyer singled. Langer then tripled to right field, scoring Meyer and making the game 3-0. Those three runs would be all the women needed as they won the game 3-0.
Alexa Haberer (Derby, NY/Lake Shore) was outstanding in the game as she pitched 7.0 shutout innings. Haberer allowed just two hits and struck out four for her sixth win of the season. Carney, Meyer, and Langer each recorded two hits in the game with Victoria Purucker (North Tonawanda, NY/Starpoint) also adding one.
The women will next play tomorrow, May 1 as they host the Pitt.-Bradford Panthers beginning at 3:00pm.
