Buffalo, NY - The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) released their softball preseason poll with the D'Youville softball team expected to compete for a playoff spot.
In this year's coaching poll, the Spartans are pegged to finish seventh in the conference - one spot outside of the playoffs. D'Youville returned to the postseason in 2018 after a one-year absence in 2017. The women ended the season with a 15-19 overall record and a 9-9 conference record.
In addition to their playoff appearance, the women had two all-conference selections at season's end. Outfield tandem Ashley Carney (Clarence, NY/Clarence) and Jackie Langer (Wexford, PA/Pine Richland) earned first and second team all-conference honors respectively.
Carney and sophomore pitcher Alexa Haberer (Derby, NY/Lake Shore) were named the team's players to watch. Carney was named an AMCC First Team All-Conference player, finishing the season second in the conference in batting average (.464), fourth in hits (51), tied for third in triples (4), third in on base percentage (.500), and eighth in slugging percentage (.591).
As for Haberer, she led team in wins (8), strikeouts (66), and saves (1). She ranked second in innings pitched (100.2) and ERA (3.48), complete games (10), and games started (22) after a solid freshman season.
Penn State-Behrend is expected to finish at the top once again with Medaille predicted to finish second and Mount Aloysius third. The top six teams make the playoffs.
The full preseason poll - including top 10 ranking, players to watch, and preseason awards - can be found on the AMCC website.
D'Youville will begin their season on Saturday, March 16 as they begin their spring training in Kissimmee, FL against Geneva and Ohio Wesleyan.
