Spartans Split Fourth Consecutive Conference Doubleheader against La Roche

Pittsburgh, PA – The D'Youville softball team split their conference doubleheader against the La Roche Redhawks on Saturday afternoon, winning game one 3-0 and losing game two 6-5 in extra innings.

D'Youville got on the board first in the third inning. Mikaela Milleveille (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) led off the inning with a triple. She was then driven in by Ashley Carney (Clarence, NY/Clarence) with a single to give the Spartans a 1-0 lead.

In the top of the sixth, the Spartans would double their lead. Alexa Haberer (Derby, NY/Lake Shore) singled and stole second with one out. Therese Losardo (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) pinch ran for Haberer with Jordan Hartman (Lake View, NY/Frontier) pinch hitting for Rachel Colan (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) two batters later. Hartman would then single, bringing in Losardo to double the team's lead to 2-0.

Adding one more insurance run, D'Youville tallied one more run in the top of the seventh. Carney singled, moving to third on a Megan Meyer (Cheektowaga, NY/Maryvale) single two batters later. Darian Evans (Brant, NY/Lake Shore) then singled to left field, scoring Carney as the Spartans would go on to win game one 3-0.

Haberer pitched another great game, allowing just two hits and striking out 11 through seven innings of work. She added the hits at the plate in the win.

Meyer led the team with three hits in the game as Carney and Evans had two hits each. Hartman and Milleville each had a hit with Carney, Evans, and Hartman picking up the RBI.

La Roche ended their scoring slump in the first inning of game two, taking a 1-0 lead. Milleville would then walk and Carney would reach on a fielder's choice as Purucker was out at third, but Rylie Russo (Hamburg, NY/Frontier) would single to center to score Milleville and tie the game at 1-1. The Redhawks would then score a run in the bottom of the third to take the lead back at 2-1.

The Spartans would take the lead in the fifth inning as Carney double to center field with one out. Russo then brought her home with a triple to tie the game at 2-2. Brittaney Goodrich (Eden, NY/Eden) then brought home Russo by reaching base to give the women their first lead at 3-2.

A run from the Redhawks tied the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the sixth. Heading into the seventh, D'Youville would retake the lead as Carney reached first on an error with one out. She then advanced to third over the next at-bat and would score on a Goodrich single to give the team the lead.

Down to their final out, La Roche would tie the game in the seventh and send the game to extra innings. With a runner being placed on second in extra innings, Evans began on second and moved to third in the first at-bat. Meyer would drive in Evans on a fielder's choice, sending the women into the bottom of the eighth with the lead.

However, La Roche was able to tie the game yet again and then win it on a walk-off to win the game 6-5.
