Buffalo, NY - Two of the top five teams in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) will face off this Thursday as the Pitt.-Bradford Panthers and D'Youville Spartans softball teams face off in the AMCC Game of the Week.
The D'Youville softball team is coming off their fourth consecutive conference split this past weekend against the La Roche Redhawks. D'Youville comes into the AMCC Game of the Week with a 6-4 conference record after defeating the Penn State-Behrend Lions and La Roche last week – splitting their doubleheaders.
Ashley Carney (Clarence, NY/Clarence) has regained form as one of the best hitters in the conference, tallying hits in each game last week. Her best game came in the 5-4 win over the Lions in game two of the doubleheader as she went 3-4 with two runs scored, a triple, a stolen base, and a RBI in the win. She leads the team with 31 hits and a .425 batting average – fifth in the AMCC. Megan Meyer (Cheektowaga, NY/Maryvale) has shouldered a great deal of the offensive weight as well for the women as she is second on the team in hits and batting average while leading the way in stolen bases and RBI.
Mikaela Milleville (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) and Victoria Purucker (North Tonawanda, NY/Starpoint) are both also hitting over .300 with Rylie Russo (Hamburg, NY/Frontier), Alexa Haberer (Derby, NY/Lake Shore), and Brittaney Goodrich (Eden, NY/Eden) contributing as well.
Goodrich picked up the big win for the Spartans over the Lions last week while Haberer has been logging most of the innings. She leads the team in ERA, wins, innings pitched, and strikeouts. In the 3-0 victory over La Roche Saturday, Haberer went 7.0 innings and allowed just two hits and struck out a season high 11 batters. She has pitched one no-hitter this season already.
Bradford enters the game with the third best record in the conference at 7-3 and winners of their last four conference games. The Panthers swept Medaille (wins of 8-3 and 14-6) and Penn State-Altoona (wins of 3-0 and 3-1) last week and have won nine of their last 10 games overall.
Infielder Maddy Hillery is currently fourth in the conference in batting average with a .432 average, collecting 38 hits this season. She is one of four players with over 30 hits this season for the Panthers and one of two players with 27 or more runs. Hillery is also third in the conference in RBI with 26 while Grace Dazdaa is fourth in stolen bases with 14.
Jordan Uhing is one of the best pitchers in the AMCC with 11 wins - tied for the conference lead. She is third in strikeouts (63), fifth in innings pitched (89.1), second in complete games (11), and fourth in ERA (2.51).
In last season's matchup, the Spartans took both games with a 6-3 victory in game one and 10-2 victory in game two.
