Buffalo, NY – The D'Youville softball team swept their non-conference doubleheader on Monday afternoon, defeating the Alfred State Pioneers 7-4 in game one and 8-2 in game two.

Alfred State got on the board first in game one with a run in the top of the first. D'Youville would answer in the bottom of the second to blow the game open.

Darian Evans (Brant, NY/Lake Shore) led off with a single, moving to third two batters later with a Brittaney Goodrich (Eden, NY/Eden) single. Victoria Purucker (North Tonawanda, NY/Starpoint) would then double, scoring both Evans and Goodrich to give the Spartans a 2-1 lead. Two batters later, Ashley Carney (Clarence, NY/Clarence) would put a ball down the left field line that took a sharp hop to the corner as Carney flew around the bases for an inside the park home run, extending the lead to 4-1.

Two more runs crossed the plate for the Pioneers in the fourth inning, but the Spartans matched their run total. Purucker singled with one out, coming into score as Mikaela Milleville (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) tripled to right center. She then scored on a wild pitch in the next at-bat to make the score 6-3.

Continuing to fight, Alfred State scored one run in the fifth to trail by two at 6-4. In the bottom of the sixth, the Spartans got their run back as Purucker singled with one out. Milleville then singled to move Purucker over followed by a Carney single that scored Purucker. The run would be the final of the game as D'Youville defeated Alfred State 7-4.
